The Green Capsicum, popularly known as bell pepper or shimla mirch in India, is one of the most versatile vegetables in kitchens worldwide. Native to Central and South America, capsicums were introduced to India by the Portuguese in the 16th century and have since become an integral part of Indian cooking.
Their mild, sweet flavor with a gentle crunch makes them suitable for a wide range of dishes—from Indian curries, stir-fries, and stuffed recipes to salads, pizzas, and continental cuisines.
Green capsicum plants thrive in cool to moderately warm climates and are known for their steady yields and long harvest window. When left on the plant, the fruits eventually ripen to red, yellow, or orange, each stage offering a unique taste and nutrient profile.
